Devon & her new pal Shel
Mommy was working hard in her "office" - the red couch in our living room - so the kid & Daddy dump a mess of books on the big bed and tear through them. The sight of a book, or a magazine, puts Devon into a frenzy. We settled on The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein and happily paged back & forth through it. She took one look of Shel on the back cover and couldn't stop looking at him. We thought a picture was in order.

The New DJ at Club Tremper
Currently on her playlist: Preservation Hall Jazz Band's "Eh La Bas" and Bebel Gilbreto's latest album Momento during bath time, U2's "Vertigo" for diaper changes, Radiohead's "House of Cards" when it's naptime in the car, and of course, when it's bedtime, it's Ray LaMontagne with Lucinda Williams providing the naptime songs. Springsteen's Seeger Sessions songs - Froggie-went-a-courtin, Buffalo Gals & Pay Me My Money Down - are still, after many hundreds of repeated spins, very popular, as well as the Chicago & The Producers soundtracks. Playtime in the morning we listen to the Singers & Standards & Swing/Big Band channels on Music Choice TV.

Heard, not seen.
So it's 12:55 PM and it's time for nap number two of the day. I put Devon in her crib, her regular sleepy music playing. No protest, no crying. Silence. Ten minutes later, I hear her little voice, soft, sweet. Then louder, cooing. Then SQUEALING in delight! Not so much napping going on here... It's now about 30 minutes later and the squeeling has turned to wimpering, not yet crying. It's only fun to talk to yourself for so long. Besides, it's a beautiful day outside, who wants to nap through that!

Another Beautiful Weekend in Pemaquid
St Johns River was mad with sunshine all weekend, the entire milky way was our nighttime canopy as we enjoyed another lovely weekend at the Soldiers Cove family compound. Here we see Devon playing on the floor with Gram, Judge Grampa & Unc JohnnyCakes. For those of you who haven't seen Jonathon Cramer in a while, he lost the "urban prep" look for the neo-mousquetaire/biker look.

My Girls
It seems you can never get both kids to smile at the same time — or keep both in focus. Glory is an old pro at having her picture taken, but I've never seen her smile like this!
Devon and Glory enjoy a little quality time on this Saturday morning after an awesome nap (for all three of us!). But we're all missing Michael Daddy very much, hopefully he's coming home tomorrow, if not, then Monday.

And Introducing Glory as the Big Sister
Our beloved pup, Glory, a rescue dog from the South Bronx, has spent six years rolling around the northeast with us from city to country to mountains to beach. She is my other guru. And now a loving & protective sister. When we were at the birthing center, Kate & Andrew satyed with her. After the birth we gave Devon's skull cap & my T-shirt to them for Glory. "Don't be alarmed if she tears it up," our midwife told us, "to get out every smell." Glory just laid them on her bed until we came home with Devon, where she gave her the first of the daily puppy kisses.

How Does She do Such Marvelous Stunts With Such Little Feet?
A Day at the Beach
Classic photo booth at the Old Orchard Beach boardwalk in Maine. Mommy, Daddy & baby shared a beautiful Summer afternoon with the Cohen pack of NYC in mid-August. Devon's first time to the beach. We went on the carousel together and watched Rose Cohen (a four year old rainbow cat from Manhattan) on the kiddie rides. The photo booth was the last thing we did as you can see by the look on the over tired baby's face. She slept most of the way back to the Bonney Eagle compound.
